Chuck's Pick: Predictable Success

By Les McKeown

In running your business, when you put your foot on the gas, does it get up and go?

Many businesses are not firing on all eight cylinders or the gears don’t all mesh.

According to Les McKeown it will depend on what stage we are in how well we will perform.

What stage is your business in? Early Struggle? Fun? Whitewater? Treadmill? The Big Rut? Or even Death Rattle? This book explains how to go from Whitewater to Predictable Success and stay there.

Predictable Success is a business stage that requires balance between focus on growth and profitability. It’s like sailing upwind requiring constant adjustment to the sails and rudder to stay on course and in the zone.

Chuck's Pick: The KeyHire Solutions Podcast

Episode: AI & Your Small Business (with Lauren Glynn

Do you want to take back a big chunk of your time to use more productively? This is the best consideration and advice on time management I have ever heard. Gain time for thinking, family, and down-time with these practical steps.

As usual, Corey Harlock guides the interview with probing questions and insightful perspectives.

This is a great interview with Lauren Glynn who provides practical steps to use AI tools. Rather than the mind blowing and overwhelming stuff that we hear from the tech geeks, Lauren provides some simple steps to use Chat GPT and Claude.

Here is the biggest take-a-way that I got; ask the AI app to tell you how to prompt it to provide what you want! Tell AI what you do and who you serve before you ask it to craft some text for you.

She uses it to help craft her news letters and posts to LinkedIn. Her suggestion is to provide AI with examples of previous News Letter content and other posts you have written and ask it to use your style.

She suggests asking AI for some text that will be most attractive to your intended audience and even ask AI to provide some calls to action.

She does warn not to just use what AI produces without reviewing and editing to your liking.

Finally, you can go to Lauren Glynn.com/prompts to get suggestions on how to communicate your requests.

Thanks Corey for another informative interview that is designed to help business leaders.

Chuck's Pick: Building Texas Business

Episode: Behind the Grill with Patrick Terry

Patrick started P. Terry Burgers in early 2000s and now has thirty-five locations and growing.

He did this by establishing a niche that answered a demand for a quality product in a market full of big competitors.

It is a fun interview with an interesting guy. Patrick tells a great story about getting burned out, thinking of selling, hiring a CEO, and then deciding to take back the helm. He is loving it and has learned to balance his focus. Maybe he read Predictable Success because he seems to have found the Zone.

If you live in Houston, you will not have to wait long. Patrick has one opening soon in Richmond and planning a total of five locations for Houston. I can’t wait!!!

After serving for years as V.P. of Operations under his dad, Ketul took over as CEO of Reliance Mixers the family business.

This company started manufacturing knives for cutting plastic pellets from extrusions coming out of reactors at chemical companies.

They expanded manufacturing to include mixers used to blend multiple dry chemicals into mixtures for specialized products. These are the ingredients in plastic moldings including injection molding. Think ice chests and kayaks. They also serve the cosmetics industries.

They are migrating into the control systems for the batching process upstream of their mixers.

This company is experiencing growth and the pains and opportunities that go with it. Ketul is a member or our Vistage Peer Advisory Group.

Our group members are business leaders and owners of non-competing companies. Members benefit from the diverse perspective of other members and a coach to work through challenges and consider opportunities.

Announcing the soon to open resort style backyard experience of Talyard Brewing Company. The much awaited opening of Talyard Brewing will happen this month. Talyard is located next to the Space Cowboy’s stadium in Sugarland just off Hwy 6.

Talyard is the creation of a friend of mine Chuck Laughter and his partner Keith Teague. They are neighbors and have enjoyed parties and activities while enjoying a brew in their own backyards for years. They both have years of experience in the Oil and Gas engineering and operations. They have assembled an amazing team of experts including brewmasters, chefs, and hospitality industry managers to pull off this venture.

After successful careers, they decided to create a huge backyard atmosphere with Cornhole and Pickleball courts and a state of the art playscape for kids so their customers can enjoy great food and unique brews while hanging-out.

They have a big stage for live music and I recently enjoyed a soft opening event with the band, Rukus, playing.

Check out Talyard Brewing on their website and Facebook, Instagram, etc.
