Big Turn Out at the Houston Deal Makers Conference

Smart Business Deal Makers organizers delivered as planned for a packed schedule of interviews and panels regarding all aspects of M&A deals and considerations. 

Jessica Seff, director, Statesman Business Advisors brought two guests who she had helped with a full and partial sale. Both businesses and owners are in Mexico. One was 4+ generations and the other on the second gen. 

There are so many considerations beyond finding the right buyer if you are selling or merging. Can any sort of earn-out work out to be favorable? Are there way to handle the proceeds to minimize taxable income at the transaction date? How can you structure the deal to protect the employees who helped you get the company to this point? What are you going to do with the liquidity?

There was one panel discussion focused on family business, succession considerations, and family office options. What are the options to handle generational wealth. 

Every facet of planning, guidance, and consultation from legal to tax to estate planning was represented in the room. 

The conference organizers provided an app to help connect with panelists and guests at and beyond the event. 

I was able to connect with many of the panelists including Carrie Colbert owner of Curate Capital. Curate Capital is a PE firm focused on investments in female owned enterprises. Carrie is very active on social media and her panel covered the advantages of establishing a strong presence on social media platforms. She gets most of her deal flow from owners responding to her posts and content. Look for her on LinkedIn!
